A little-known tradition of pictographic communication has developed in Africa since prehistoric times. The signs and symbols represent anything from simple identity to the most profound human emotion. Pentagram Papers 36: Marks of Africa is drawn from the collection of the Spanish designer Fernando Medina, who has been studying and re-rendering the symbols since 1997.
