Paula Scher’s iconic typography has appeared on everything from buildings to album covers. Now her type is featured on a new collection of t-shirts created in collaboration with Uniqlo and its SPRZ NY project. The range of 10 different designs (five in women’s styles, five in men’s) are adapted from Scher's graphics for the theatrical productions Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk and The Wild Party, her The Best of Jazz poster for CBS Records, and her map paintings.
SPRZ NY (“Surprise New York”) presents limited edition collaborations with artists and designers in modern art-inspired fashion products, many featuring works from the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (across the street from Uniqlo's Fifth Avenue flagship). Scher joins a distinguished lineup of past SPRZ NY participants that includes Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Piet Mondrian, Aleksandr Rodchenko, El Lissitzky, Jackson Pollock, Jenny Holzer, Lawrence Weiner, Robert Mapplethorpe, Jack Pierson, and Experimental Jetset, among many others.
