“One Day” is a new Netflix romance series based on David Nicholls’s best-selling novel of the same name. The show follows its protagonists, Emma and Dexter, on the same day each year over 20 years. Pentagram partner Matt Willey and team have designed the title card and graphics for the show.
Each episode begins with an establishing graphic of the date and location, set in a custom-drawn typeface, with a ticker scrolling quickly back through the years to the date of that episode. The consistent approach to the graphics gives structure to the narrative as the viewer catches glimpses of Emma and Dexter’s relationship evolving over two decades.
