Pentagram designed the permanent exhibition space and environmental graphics for the Koch Institute Public Galleries, housed within the main lobby of the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. The space is designed to introduce the public to the groundbreaking cancer research facilitated by the Institute.
The exhibition includes crystalline vitrines that house artifacts and interactive screens that are controlled by visitors. Large illuminated images featuring microscopic photography span the full length of the lobby. An etched timeline maps concurrent history for the two scientific spheres— biology and engineering—that form the Koch Institute. A colorful mosaic tile map locates the Institute within the surrounding MIT campus and Cambridge environs.
