Yuri Suzuki Launches MSG Records
Yuri Suzuki has launched a new record label with an identity created by fellow Pentagram partner Astrid Stavro and profits going to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
MSG is a new record label launched by sound designer and Pentagram partner Yuri Suzuki.
MSG’s debut release is ‘Scott’s Dream—Music from a reimagined Digital Electronium’. It's timed to coincide with the birthday of legendary director of Motown's Electronic Search and Development department, and creator of the Electronium, Raymond Scott.
The original Electronium was an instrument which intelligently generated music by responding to sequenced melodic phrases. It's currently owned by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, who has given his blessing to Yuri, as has the Raymond Scott Archives.
Using AI, Yuri has worked with Counterpoint studio to reimagine the Electronium in digital form, coaxing a range of sounds from the instrument and moving from calm electronic counterpoint to more introspective and darker timbres.
The eleven compositions are available as a download and on cassette from MSG’s Bandcamp page along with the limited edition poster, with all profits going to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
MSG's identity, poster and cassette graphics have been designed by Yuri's fellow Pentagram partner Astrid Stavro.
