DJ Stout Profiled in Graphis
Pentagram turned 50 in 2022, and to mark the occasion Graphis Inc. featured DJ Stout, who has been a Pentagram Partner and principal of the Austin office for nearly half that time (23 years) as one of its "Graphis Master” profiles in its Graphis Journal 375.
The digital version of the substantial 34-page portfolio and interview was made available in 2022 and the print edition is out this week. In addition to the Q&A with Stout the feature includes a personal introduction by one of Pentagram Austin's longtime clients, Maureen Pacino, the ISVP of Marketing and Brand Management at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. Many other clients and collaborators contribute quotes to the profile, including David Pittman, the co-owner of Peach Coffee Roasters, Bailey Morrison, Digital Media Producer and Direct Promotions Manager of the University of Texas Press, Jonathon Harrop, VP of Global Marketing for Digital Turbine, and Austin photographer and portraitist Randal Ford (famous for his Dairy Today cow portraits that now adorn the Austin office) who says this about Stout:
“DJ is an extraordinary designer. Instead of following international trends, he embraces his western Texas roots in his design, while also, aesthetically, far transcending them.”
For Stout, who has been profiled previously in Graphis when he was the Art Director of Texas Monthly, the Graphis profile is an honor and a career milestone.
“When I began my design career in Dallas in the early 80s, the late great illustrator (and fellow Dallas resident) Jack Unruh was one of my mentors and Graphis magazine was the ultimate showcase of design excellence,” says Stout. “Now I’m humbled to be featured as a "Graphis Master" in the same Graphis Journal edition as Jack."
Copies of the journal are available to purchase via the Graphis website.
