James Biber studied architecture and biology at Cornell University before establishing his own architectural firm in New York in 1984. He was invited to join Pentagram in 1991, becoming the firm’s second architectural partner after founder Theo Crosby.

Like his partners, his practice does not specialize in a single area but covers a wide range of building types and client profiles. James and his design team provide architectural services to private and commercial clients including restaurants, museums, iconic structures, exhibitions and interiors that promote the clients’ ideas. The team also produces a number of custom residential projects, furniture and lighting.

James has taught architecture at Cornell University, Syracuse University, and Parsons the New School for Design in New York. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and his projects have been featured in numerous consumer, design and trade publications. His work has been recognized with major awards from a multitude of design and architectural organizations.
