Angus Hyland studied graphic design at the London College of Printing and the Royal College of Art. After running his own successful studio in Soho for ten years, he became a partner in Pentagram’s London offices in 1998.

He has worked with a wide range of private and public sector clients including AkzoNobel, Asprey, BBC, British Council, British Museum, Canongate Books, Citibank, Crafts Council, Documenta 11, EMI, Getty Images, Grant Thornton International, Laurence King, Nokia, Parker Pens, Penguin Group, Phaidon Press, Reed Exhibitions, Royal Academy, Sainsbury’s, Sage, Samsung, Renault, The Sage Gateshead, Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern.

Angus’ work has been widely published and has received over one hundred creative awards including two D&AD silvers and the Grand Prix from the Scottish Design Awards. He also featured in the Independent on Sunday’s “Top Ten Graphic Designers in the UK” in 2002.

Angus was the curator of Picture This, a British Council touring exhibition featuring the work of contemporary London-based illustrators, and Ballpoint, an exhibition featuring works by fifty artists created with or inspired by the traditional ballpoint pen. His own work has been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally.

In 2005, Angus was appointed consultant creative director to Laurence King Publishing, where he oversees all aspects of design and brand management and is responsible for generating new book concepts.

Angus has edited four books on graphic design: Pen and Mouse: Commercial Art and Digital Illustration; Hand to Eye: Contemporary Illustration; C/ID: Visual Identity and Branding for the Arts (with Emily King); and his bestselling volume on contemporary illustration, The Picture Book.

Angus was elected a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) in 1999 and is currently President of the UK chapter. In 2002 he received an honorary Master of Arts from The Surrey Institute of Art & Design.
